Code: LL

Name: Leh Ladakh

Description: The Ladakh Himalayan ranges shown here are boon as well as ban to the people of Ladakh. Ban, because, it prevents the Indian monsoon from crossing over to the region making it a cold desert. Boon, because Ladakh can enjoy a pleasant climatic conditions from July to September making the region a much sought after tourist destination (when rest of India is lashed by the Indian monsoon) and giving employment opportunities to the natives. The Stupa in the foreground is at a most prominent location of the market area of Leh, the capital of Ladakh and it is a hand painted reproduction of a photograph taken by Dr. Lobsang Tsering. Because the stupa is made of slate stone and covered with lime paste, such types of stupas are never in exact geometric shapes.
