Code: SYN
Name: Swayambunath (Nepal)
Description: Situated atop a hill in the Kathmandu valley, the pilgrims and tourist need to reach the site after climbing about 365 steps from the eastern side. The stupa is dome shaped. Apart from the “Buddha eye”, the idols of five buddhas and the thirteen pinnacles represents the important components of the stupa. Along with Boudhanath, it is one of the most important tourist destinations in Nepal.
How the painting is constructed: Because the drawing of a Buddhist structure needs to be precise, an original photograph is printed on the canvas so as to obtain the exact dimensions of the structure. It is then painted in oil medium. For a photographer it is very difficult to capture the complete picture of the “Buddha Eye” through camera (though not present in the original photograph, the painting depicts this).
